Mekong Delta MAI VANG homestay 2 days / 1 night

Itinerary

Day 1: HCM – Xeo Quyt – MAI VANG Homestay (L/D)

Depart at 7:00 am from HCMC to Cai Be Town in Mekong River Delta (110km). Have a motorized boat ride to see Cai Be floating market with local people being selling, buying, exchanging goods from their boats. Walk around handicraft village to see rice paper making, rice crispy producing process, coconut candy workshop, then be continue transfer for My Hiep village, where take 45 minutes by motorboat along the canal to Xeo Quyt (Viet Cong Base) belong Dong Thap province see real life of local people in the Mekong River delta area. Base is 6km off the main road at My Long village, where it is adequately signposted and about 20km east of Cao Lanh, the base was home of Community Party of Dong Thap province whom

planned the war from the safety of the base, with 52 hectares forest in 1966. There was so little vegetation cover here that fast growing eucalyptus trees were planted, but even these took three years to provide sufficient cover to conceal humans. As the waterlogged ground prevented tunneling, waterproof chambers seals with plastic and resin were sunk into the mud. Stocked with rice, water with candles communist cadres co-ordinate their resistance strategy from here for almost 15 years. Despite frequent land and air raids the US forces never succeeded in finding or damaging the base. After take a small sampan around inside the Tram forest, see fighting bunkers, kitchen, office, meeting house. Have a lunch at restaurant in the base. Transfer to Vinh Long city, take a boat to MAI VANG homestay, cycling in the village or

fishing, dinner with set menu Vietnamese foods. Overnight at home stay.

DAY 2: Homestay – HCM (B/L)

Leave homestay after breakfast transfer to Sa Dec City, where is many flowers nurseries on the

fringes of the city, walking along the canal to visit Duras’childhood home, many of the scenes

from the film adaptation of Duras’novel The Lover. Duras’mother who was herself the local Pagoda since 1849 in My Tho on the way back to HCM. End of service.
